The National Trust is an independent environmental and conservation charity committed to preserving places of historic interest and natural beauty for ever, for everyone. It achieves this through practical caring and conservation, learning and discovery, and encouraging millions of people to visit and enjoy their national heritage. The Trust has been active in Northern Ireland since 1936 and it owns and manages around 12,000 hectares (46 square miles) of countryside and 200 kilometres of the local coastline.
