Meet the new ESDF committee member

At last month’s AGM Catilin Quinn was voted on to the ESDF committee. Nominated by our committee, her name stood out due to her work and enthusiasm as a young professional starting out in her environmental career. Caitlin presented at our ESDF Conference and gave an overview of the education work taking place at our venue in Oxford Island, along with some of her personal reflections and inspirations. Read more about our new committee member here.

Hi! My name is Caitlin Quinn and I am the newest member of the ESDF Committee. I studied geography at Ulster University, Coleraine where I enjoyed learning about our planet through the lens of connected systems (and spending time by the ocean!).

I currently work as a Conservation Education and Activities Assistant for Armagh Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, based at the beautiful Oxford Island NNR. My job involves educating schools and groups on the importance of conservation work in preserving and increasing biodiversity through a range of practical, on-site activities. I enjoy being able to teach about the impacts that climate change can have on the environment, and, more importantly, the different approaches and advocacy work that helps the mitigation and adaption of these impacts to empower the public and reduce eco-anxiety.

I am excited to meet the leaders of environmental education, gaining insight into best practices across the industry and am hopeful to collaborate with other organisations to deliver biodiversity education projects. I look forward to seeing environmental education embedded into more subjects and sectors, helping to take theory outside the classroom and applying it to real-world scenarios.

I am ready to be hopeful for our environment’s future!
